Protected Voices is about the shift that happens when a person feels protected enough to speak, express, or confront. That protection is not something everyone gets to assume. For those like myself, growing up within the diaspora, safety was never guaranteed. Voice becomes conditional under those terms, withheld until the space allows it. Not everyone gets to speak freely. Without protection, that costs something.
